The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund’s mission is to leverage municipal engagement to improve the financial stability of low and moderate income households by embedding financial empowerment strategies into local government infrastructure. The Fund works with mayoral administrations and those interested in supporting them to actually implement innovative programs and policies -- and measures its success accordingly.

The Citi Foundation and CFE Fund Announce Summer Jobs Connect

The Citi Foundation and the CFE Fund announced Summer Jobs Connect, an innovative $3.8 million program that will provide summer jobs and services to young adults. The five funded City administrations will explore gateways to safe and appropriate mainstream banking products, services, and financial education.

NATIONAL FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT CENTER INITIATIVE

The CFE Fund awarded In-Kind Technical Assistance grants to seven additional cities to implement Financial Empowerment Centers. This effort builds upon the launch of last year's $16.2 million initiative, in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, to replicate NYC's Financial Empowerment Centers.

CFPB, NYC, and CFE Fund Announce Partnership

CFPB Director Richard Cordray, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, and Commissioner Jonathan Mintz announced a partnership with the CFE Fund to replicate local consumer financial protection capacity in cities across the nation, which was hailed as good for both local needs and robust federal enforcement. CFE Fund Hosts Joint Coalition and Presidential Council Meeting

The CFE Coalition held a joint meeting with the Cities and Communities Working Group of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability of Young Americans in Los Angeles. Officials discussed best practices including the CFE Fund's Summer Jobs Connect and other municipal college finance programs.
