Video: Summer Jobs Connect – COVID-19 Didn’t Stop SYEPs

Each year, over 110,000 young people work summer jobs and are supported through financial education, banking access, and other financial empowerment resources as part of the CFE Fund’s national Summer Jobs Connect (SJC) initiative, supported by the Citi Foundation. 

This video details how through pivoting to remote programming, cities across the US were able to adapt to COVID-19 and incorporate financial literacy programs and safe, affordable banking access into their SYEPs through Summer Jobs Connect. In addition, SYEPs also supported discussions around racial equality amongst youth and demonstrated how youth can serve their community in crisis times.

 

 

Video: Summer Jobs Connect – More Than Just a Summer Job

Each year, as part of the national Summer Jobs Connect (SJC) initiative, the CFE Fund, with generous support from the Citi Foundation, partners with mayors and local governments from across the country to connect 2,550 young people with summer jobs, and more than 110,000 young people with financial education, banking access, and other financial empowerment resources.

The video below features Summer Jobs Connect partners including the City of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Former City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Washington D.C. Summer Jobs Connect: Youth Voices Video

This video highlights youth stories from the CFE Fund’s Summer Jobs Connect (SJC) initiative and #SummerJobsConnect Twitter campaign, in which SJC participants shared their stories about the program’s impact – opening a bank account, building savings, earning pay through direct deposit, and more.

Summer Jobs Connect is an ambitious initiative spearheaded by the Citi Foundation and the CFE Fund to support young adults seeking summer employment, enhancing these municipally-led programs by integrating structural linkages to safe and appropriate banking products, services, and education. During the initiative’s fourth year, the CFE Fund worked with 13 city governments and their local Summer Youth Employment Program partners to provide additional job positions to local residents of predominantly low incomes between the ages of 14 and 24, as well as connect them to appropriate bank and credit union products and meaningful financial education.

Piloted at select free tax preparation sites in four cities, SaveUSA is a simple tax time matched savings program — tax filers who deposited part of their refund into a designated account, and maintained the deposit for a year, received a 50% savings match up to $500.
